Work > Feed the Moon, 2024

Natessa Amin: Feed the Moon, Commonweal Gallery, Philadelphia, PA January 19 - March 2, 2024
"Feed the Moon" is a metaphor for self-revelation and raising consciousness, inspired by the philosophical writings of G.I. Gurdjieff. Gurdjieff believed in a mystical relationship between the earth and the moon, viewing their separation during early celestial creation as a trauma. However, through the balance of their orbits, they ultimately achieved peace. "Feeding the moon" symbolizes navigating personal conflict to achieve inner equilibrium and harmony with others. These paintings employed techniques similar to those used by medical professionals, such as masking, scraping, cauterizing, and sculpting layers of paint. Like scar tissue, these paintings emphasize transition and growth, healing over remnants and residues of the past.
